Welcome to my blog about the Troubles in Ireland, the ones that occurred from 1913-1923, a ten year period that saw many ongoing conflicts within Ireland. From the Easter Rebellion through the Irish Civil War, this period of Irish history has become a recent interest of mine. I am sure that my slight bit of Irish ancestry has something to do with this recent interest, one that I will be delving into more over the next several months and years.
My gaming project will be leaning towards 20mm, using the excellent Liberation Miniatures Irish Civil War range. While there are some fine castings available now in 25(28)mm (Blaze Away Miniatures, Musketeer Miniatures, Reiver Castings), I have some great Eslo terrain for Ireland in 20mm already, and the cost of the Liberation Miniatures figures, along with their chunky animated style, simply can't be beat (.75 cents at the time of this writing).
To get the blog rolling along with things that might interest you, I have taken the liberty to add a few blog pages that contain a series of articles written by Greg Blake (of Cannon Fodder Miniatures fame) and John O'Connell, that appeared several years ago in a gaming magazine (which one escapes me now, I downloaded the articles from the now defunct MagWeb site). There are three sections, a background, a scenario, and a set of rules. The rules I have used before, and are similar to Mr. Blake's Yanks Up the Yangtze rules, which can be downloaded for free from the Blaze Away Miniatures site.
Future posts will talk about various resources, miniatures, terrain, and gaming the period. I hope you'll enjoy visiting from time to time!
